NIGERIAN JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE

(formerly Tropical Journal of Animal Science)

GUIDELINES TO AUTHORS / CONTRIBUTORS (2017)

The Nigerian Journal of Animal Science (NJAS) is an official publication of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) that is published thrice a year. The Journal publishes carefully peer-reviewed original research articles on various farm and laboratory animals covering diverse areas such as production, management, health, physiology, nutrition, feeds and feedstuff, breeding and genetics, reproduction, animal products, biotechnology, socio-economics, extension, farming systems and crop/livestock interactions within the context of sustainable livestock production among others. Review articles should cover new development in a field of livestock production.

Submission of a paper will be taken to imply that the material has not been previously published or is being considered for publication elsewhere. Conference papers may however, be upgraded after conforming to journal guidelines. NJAS does not necessarily subscribe to the opinions/conclusions expressed by authors however; copyright of all published material rests with the journal.

Manuscripts should be processed with Times New Roman of font size 12, double-spaced and line numbered using A4 size paper. The sequence of organization of manuscripts should be: on page one, title of paper, surname followed by initials, affiliation of the author (s), e-mail and telephone contact of correspondence author followed by Target audience (below the address), Abstract (not more than 200 words), Keywords (4-6 words), Description of Problem, Materials and Method, Results and Discussion (separated or combined), Conclusions and Applications (should be listed numerically in an outline form), Acknowledgement (if any), References, Tables and figures. Pages of manuscripts should be serially numbered using Arabic numerals.

References cited in the text should be indicated by numbers in brackets, i.e., (1) or (2) or (3) e.t.c. without stating the name(s) of the author(s). All references cited should be listed in the reference section in the order in which they were cited in the text followed by the surnames, initials, year of publication, title, medium of publication, journal volume and the first and last page in that order. (e.g 1. Olusola, O.O., Abunwune, R.N and Adesola, A.T (2017). Quality evaluation of kilishi, an intermediate moisture meat product sold in Zaria metropolis, Nigeria. Nigerian Journal of Animal Science, 19 (2): 271-279. 2. Salami, R. I. and Odunsi, A. A (2017). Growth performance of broiler starter chickens fed varying levels of fibre and energy in multi-fibre source-based diets. Nigerian Journal of Animal Science, 19 (2) 83-93. 3. Steel G. D. and Torrie, J.H (1981). Principles and Procedures of Statistics (2nd edition). McGraw-Hill Book Company Inc. New York).

All accompanying tables, figures or photographs should be numbered and cited sequentially in the text however; each table should be on a separate page. When preparing tables, the title should be lower case letters (except the first letter). Avoid horizontal and vertical lines within the tables. Insert Table option should be used to prepare tables instead of preparing tables manually. The illustrations (as minimal as possible) must be very sharp and clearly defined. Legends should not be on the photographic illustrations but should be typed on a separate page accompanying the figures. Graphs should be prepared in clear reproducible camera-ready forms of printing.

Two or more reviewers will review all original manuscripts submitted for publication before a decision is taken. However, manuscripts that do not conform to the guidelines will be promptly returned. All correspondence should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief’s email: njas2011@gmail.com

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be accompanied by handling charge of two thousand naira (local) or ten dollars (foreign) per paper. The Journal charges N20, 000 or seventy-five dollars per manuscript accepted and published. However extra cost will be incurred if colour pages are included in manuscripts.
